Casa Don Bosco Museum is located at the Salesian Mother House in Valdocco, Turin, the birthplace of St. John Bosco’s mission with and for the young. The itinerary begins at the main museum, Museo Casa Don Bosco, and ends at the smaller Don Bosco Missions Ethnographic Museum, located in the same courtyard. Together, these two museums develop various aspects of the Salesian charism through culture, art and history.
About our venues:
Casa Don Bosco Museum is located in a multi-ethnic and intercultural neighborhood. It is the only large cultural and museum centre in the area. It tells the story of a man, Don Bosco, and of a place, Valdocco, which transformed Turin and the lives of thousands of youngsters to whom Don Bosco offered a home, a family and a future.
The Don Bosco Missions Ethnographic Museum highlights the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples whom the early Salesian missionaries encountered in various regions of the world, beginning with Patagonia in 1875. Original artifacts brought to Italy during the early 1900’s, coupled with precious photographic and video documentation, testify to a mutually enriching exchange of cultures. The exhibits convey the Salesian priority of protecting indigenous traditions from the past even as they promote human and social advancement today.

Methodology

The first three webinars will be livestreamed on our Facebook page @museocasadonbosco. Register to interact with the webinar presenters.

Each livestreamed webinar and the in person session will address a new theme.

The fourth and final session will be a workshop and will take place in person at Casa Don Bosco Museum. The event date is pending and subject to Covid prevent regulations

Goals

  • To promote both Casa Don Bosco Museum and the Don Bosco Missions Ethnographic Museum;

  • To promote the concept of “the Museum as a place of encounter, relationship and education”;

  • To promote the empathetic value of play by which a child learns to be with others and build peer relationships;

  • To promote inclusivity by transforming a child’s individual game into a team experience that introduces the element of the “other”;

  • To transmit the importance of the dynamics of play within the education system: play is a formative experience through which a child appropriates the great ideals of life, such as loyalty, generosity, honesty, the spirit of sacrifice and commitment.
