Mathew 25. Keep it Human.
Painting Exhibition
From December 2 January 6, Casa Don Bosco Museum is hosting “Matteo 25. Keep it Human“, a painting exhibition by Massimiliano Ungarelli.
The title derives from Chapter 25 of the Gospel of Matthew. On the plywood panels, composed of carpentry scraps, Ungarelli reinterprets photographs in pastel and charcoal. The prevailing colour is red, evoking the extremes of love, passion, nobility, war, the blood of the martyrs, the passion of Christ. Matthew 25 challenges us to care for those who suffer in the world, which is the essential condition for remaining human.
Thanks to the Midrash Association of the Capuchin friars of Turin, the exhibition will be accompanied by two events: on December 4 and 19 at 4 p.m., music, reading and dance will lead visitors “into the images” and the lives narrated through Ungarelli’s hands.
Admission is free.
In accordance with current government regulations (DPCM, 23 July 23, 2021), visitors must present their Green Pass accompanied by a valid identity document to enter the Museum.

THE EXHIBITION.
The exhibition title refers to Chapter 25 of Matthew’s Gospel, famous for its disturbing power to expose the limits and contradictions of human misery.
The paintings are realized on carpentry scraps:
“these plywood panels generate imperfect beauty because of their “wounded” surface, unique and unrepeatable because of their scars, perfect metaphors for the human reality”.
Warm colours predominate Matthew 25. Red evokes the extremes of love, violence, danger, life, blood, fire, passion, royalty, war. Furthermore, red becomes a symbol for the Passion of Christ, the blood of the martyrs, the Holy Spirit’s transformative tongues of fire at Pentecost, and even the colour of hell.
Heaven or hell, salvation or damnation, life or death? These questions demand a response: “will I choose to remain human?”.
An important goal of Ungarelli’s Matthew 25 project is to encourage concrete assistance for people in need. In collaboration with the Midrash Association of the Capuchin Friars, half of the proceeds raised by Matthew 25 through the sale of original works and offerings for reproductions will benefit refugee families. At the end of the exhibition, a report on the proceeds will be published on www.associazionemidrash.it
